'I managed to paint from my heart.
I connected to a place of joy and aliveness in me that I had struggled to connect to in the past year. And even better, it translated
into art. So for me it was a real revelation and a true joy.'

Work on this retreat is based on developing a deep connection to nature as a starting point and as a source of inspiration.
I will offer you a number of exercises to help you with this so that you are able to step beyond the purely representational. This stage is done using drawing, primarily charcoal.
Following this, we paint. Painting is in acrylics, for practical reasons and because it is a good learning resource.
We have regular group feedback sessions, which are an essential part of the learning.
As well as this, this retreat is quite unique in that I work individually with each one in the group, for the entire retreat.
You will learn and refine techniques, use of tools, use of colour, composition and how to listen to your work. All this, tailored to your specific needs.
I will also suggest exercises to free you up and to enable you to learn from each other.
There will be a lot of playing and experimenting and at the same time, contemplation, deep observation and a bit of meditation thrown in too.
You will feel contained enough to take risks and explore.
You will develop a sense of loving freedom towards your work.
I will help you find what you do best and how to do it better.
You will become freer, more confident and more knowledgable about how to unfold your work and your ideas.
The idea is not to get you painting like me but to help you further develop your own way.
It will feel like being in love!
“There is a vitality, a life force, an energy, a quickening that is translated through you into action, and because there is only one of you in all time, this expression is unique. And if you block it, it will never exist through any other medium and will be lost.”
